What if I can't help my kid in college?

Greg Farrall

We have great kids, much like yourselves. Ours are now currently in or out of college.

Every parent's greatest fear is when you can't get ahold of their child in an emergency. Natural disasters have taught us that we can always be prevented from communicating with our family due to power outages, cell phone towers, and dying batteries. Every family needs a disaster plan in case the worst happens.

But what if you know your now eighteen-year-old daughter is injured and sitting in a college University emergency room, texting you that she is ok but needs your help? You are shut off from communicating with the hospital without having a plan.

The plan is to get a few simple things done before they leave for college.

You need the following to make sure you and your kids are covered. Get the following:

Health Power of Attorney Documents

Finance Power of Attorney Documents

HIPAA Release & FERPA Waiver

Staying in the loop and being ready to act quickly is essential. Never get caught unprepared.

You can have your lawyer draft these documents and all parties sign. Discuss with your child that this is not an invasion of privacy but only in the event of an emergency.

Also, we do not receive compensation, but I always like to pass on a good thing. MamaBearlegalforms.com offers a package that covers you for only $79 and is valid in other states where your child might be attending school. They have documents specifically designed for all 50 states and DC. Students heading out of state for college. You can add a second state for free.

You can use this link to get 20% off, if you like. Check it out when you can.

Hope this helps. Cheers!
